100 Reasons to Choose Biblical Creation Over Evolution
95. Gas and Oil Pressures
Most geologists believe that the world's vast oil and gas deposits were produced when massive amounts of organic material were buried and compressed over millions of years. These deposits, however, exist under great pressure. Because these deposits exist beneath permeable rock, they could not have retained the kind of pressures we see today over millions of years. The upper limit for these pressures is around 10,000 yearsA.
The data fits the biblical model perfectly. During the flood of Noah, which occurred about 44 hundred years ago, great amounts of organic material was suddenly buried and compressed by rapidly building sediments. This compressed material became the gas and oil deposits we find today. Because the flood occurred well within the last 10,000 years, these vast deposits have retained their pressure, even under permeable rock.

A. "…geologists find it difficult to understand how the great pressures found in some oil wells could be retained over millions of years. Creationists also use this currently puzzling situation as evidence that oil was formed less than 10,000 years ago." William D. Stansfield, "Science of Evolution", New York: Macmillan Publishing Co., 1977, p.82
