The baptism ordinance has played a significant role in the life of new Christians from the very first. This ordinance symbolizes the Christian’s death to their old life, and subsequent resurrection to a new life with Christ. The New Testament is clear that the believer’s baptism is a symbolic parallel to the physical death and resurrection of Jesus Christ A. Like the persistence of the Christian church as an institution, the persistence of the baptism ordinance can only be said to support the New Testament claims of Christ’s resurrection.
