100 Reasons to Believe New Testament History

81. The Crucifixion Victim

Yohanan Ben Ha’galgol was discovered in 1968, one of 35 bodies in Jerusalem. It was determined that most had met violent deaths during the Jewish uprising against Rome in AD 70. Yohanan had a seven inch nail driven through both his feet, just inside the Achilles tendon. The nail had gone through a wedge of acacia wood, then through the heels, then into an olive wood beam A. His legs were crushed by a blow, consistent with the Biblical account (John 19:31-32).
