83. The Theatre at Ephesus
In Acts 19:22, in response to Demetrius’ incitement of the crowds, we read that:
“…the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Arstarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.”
Today this massive structure can be seen on the western slope of Mount Pion. The theatre was 495 feet in diameter and had a 24,500 person capacity. It was connected to the Ephesian harbour by a fine marble street which was 36 feet wide and 1735 feet in length A.
