The Bondage of Freedomby Arron BergeronI hate email spam. No matter how good your filters are, there are always the odd ones which get through. If in my inbox I’m expecting questions etc from someone I’ve just recently met, it is inevitable that I’m going to open a mail which will certainly waste my time. The following is a perfect example; “You are proud winner of the sum of 750,000.00 GBP (Seven Hundred And Fifty Thousand Great British pounds). The Cheque comes with other consolation prize such as a brand new BMW X6 35iM, M Sport Saloon car,T-Shirt, Face Cap and a Sony Viao Laptop {courtesy Sony}.For more information contact…” It seems there is no end of gimmicks people will use to swindle others for personal gain. Moral pronouncements aside, this mail gave me quite a laugh. How many people, upon finding out they won such a large sum of money and a new luxury automobile, would care at all that they had also won a t-shirt and ball cap to compliment them? Someone is obviously assuming stupidity exists and is looking to exploit those who possess it. Are you laughing with me? In like manner, the proponents of the evolution story make great swelling promises. Evolutionism promises freedom from restraints, freedom to misuse sexuality any way one sees fit, freedom to tempt fate and entertain ourselves into imbecility. Under the evolution banner, we can watch whatever we want on the big screen and the computer screen without the slightest twinge of guilt. What evolutionism delivers us are cold hearts and seared consciences. No one is immune. It really concerns me, in part because I’m no exception. What many fail to realize is freedom from one thing has a corresponding bondage. As one writer puts it, freedom from the toothbrush puts us in bondage to cavities, and freedom from cavities places us in bondage to the toothbrush. It can’t be that we are free from both the cavities and the toothbrush. The type of freedoms evolutionism promises come also with their corresponding bondages. Freedom of self worship and covetousness, from murder, and from theft, inevitably will put us in bondage to fear. The alarm systems for our homes and vehicles, security checks in schools and work places, and even the copious amounts of pass codes for our computers and personal records all substantiate the claim. For the illusion of free sex, society has suffered the loss of commitment and we have put many innocent children into the bondage of broken homes. This is just the beginning. Freedom from an absolute morality founded in God is in the process of putting us in bondage to injustice, and may one day enslave us to vigilantism. Hollywood thrives on this concept in its modern portrayal of what constitutes heroism. Just like the spam mail, atheistic evolutionism promises us great things, but lies in wait to rob us blind in the process. What the promises are and what we actually receive are completely discordant. In the final tally, we have actually lost true freedom and human dignity. |
