Creation vs. Evolution (This handout goes with my 45 minute introduction to the Creation / Evolution debate) Neither worldview is “scientific” * Neither can be predicted or repeated * The same data is approached with different assumptions * The interpretations differ because the assumptions are different. * The correct starting place is always the word of God Genesis means what it says * Yom “day” – clearly refers to a literal day (appears with “evening”, “morning” and number * Exodus 20:11 clarifies the point Theological implications * Original creation “very good” (Gen 1:31) * Evolution requires death and suffering * The promise of restoration (Is.11, Acts 3:21) * Jesus’ death (Heb 2:14) nullified if evolution is true Scientific Observations * Big Bang contradicts many physical laws * Lyell’s views of geology are outdated (formed the basis for evolutionary thought) * The changes in animals and plants are limited (breeders have always recognized this) * Atheistic evolution is consistent with wars, murder and genocide * These acts are completely incompatible with Biblical Christianity |
