Emotional outbursts replace logic for atheist;More excerpts from Atheist author Christopher Hitchens"And here is the point, about myself and my co-thinkers. Our belief is not a belief. Our principles are not a faith. We do not rest solely upon science and reason, because these are necessary rather than sufficient factors, but we distrust anything that contradicts science or outrages reason." I have to admit, these types of forceful diatribe can be intimidating. Rarely does one want to disagree with an angry bull. At the same time, however, the amount of emotion behind the arguments of atheists such as Hitchens renders their logic more akin to the weak efforts an angry rodent. The very principles which he claims form the basis of his ability to know anything are based as much in faith as anyone who starts with the presupposition God exists, but with less foundation. No one can prove the scientific method scientifically. It must first be trusted by faith before one can employ it in the laboratory. The same rings true of the principles of logic and reason. Try to prove logic without the use of logic. It cannot be done. Logic must be employed in the debate of its own validity. When people of faith are described as belonging to the "infancy of our species", it amounts to nothing more than arrogant name calling like children in a playground. When God ceases to exist in men's minds, they will inevitably lose their ability make sense. God in His infinite wisdom hinted clearly at this fact when Paul was inspired to write to the church at Rome; "…because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools…" (Rom 1:21-22) I have yet to see an atheist engage a debate with a Christian by first validating his use of reason and scientific method apart from God’s existence. It cannot be done without betraying both science and reason, or the atheists supposed neutral stance. Christians, we must remember not to get pulled into the debate over the wrong questions; we must remind the atheist they are more religious than we are when using tools firmly rooted in thin air if not in God.
