Page 1 of 14 Chapter Nine:Evidence from Fulfilled PropheciesIn the preceding chapters I gave 100 reasons why the New Testament may be regarded as reliable history. This final chapter has somewhat of a different focus. Here we simply ask the question: If the New Testament is reliable history, how is it possible that so many Old Testament prophecies came to be fulfilled so precisely? As we noted earlier, if God exists, then He certainly may have relayed this information to His chosen vessels. So while the odds against many specific prophecies being fulfilled by chance through natural processes alone may be astronomical, there is absolutely nothing improbable about God doing such a thing. In this final section we will examine what I consider to be the most spectacular of the Messianic Prophecies, and in doing so, we will note how a strong miraculous element seems inextricably tied to the historic Jesus. This, I argue, lends still more credibility to the various accounts of miracles attributed to Christ throughout the pages of the New Testament. The net result is what I consider an airtight case for the New Testament’s historical reliability. |
