Frequently Asked Questions

1. Are you saying that one must believe in a young earth and a literal six-day creation, etc, in order to be a Christian?

A. Not at all. What we are saying, however, is that a literal understanding of Genesis makes the entire Bible cohere in a much more logically consistent way. The Bible says that through one man (Adam) sin entered the world and death through sin (Romans 5:12). It makes sense then that Christ's physical death would pay for our sins and destroy the works of the devil (Hebrews 2:14). However, if we suggest that the fossil record represents life that lived and died for millions of years before Adam ever showed up, then suddenly Christ's death loses its significance. Further, its hard to imagine God pronouncing his creation "very good" at the end of the creation week (Genesis 1:31) if the earth was filled with death and violence as animals struggled to survive against disease, mutation, natural disasters, and each other.
